This Week's Sales Tip: The Summer selling season is in full swing and vacations are just around the corner. May I recommend three classic books to take along on your next Summer trip?

My favorite is Dale Carnegie's How To Win Friends and Influence People. I've read it countless times and it still holds the secrets to successful interaction with prospects, clients and casual acquittances. Put the focus on the other person and you'll up the winner every time.

Norman Vincent Peale's The Power of Positive Thinking is a classic that is unmatched. This literary gem was written 60 years ago but handles today's problems like it was published yesterday.

Finally, Al Reis and Jack Trout's Positioning is the greatest marketing book of all time. This book teaches you how the fortune 500 companies market and brand themselves. Share these concepts with your prospects and you'll sell more campaigns than ever.

Go back in time and read these classics during your Summer vacation. These three books offer a remarkable foundation for a long and happy career in broadcast sales!

I tend to read for recreation. Thus...there are 2 new Clive Cussler books out this year, The Jungle and the Kingdom. Max Allen Collins is writing new Mike Hammer books. Tom Clancy is writing again. and there is a new James Bond book by, I think, Jeffery Deavers.

For Business however, I recommend Herb Cohen's "You Can Negotiate Anything." I literely could not sell until I found that one.

I would have to say during the summer I especially like Tom Hopkins early 1980's book which sold very well as a million seller.    The early eighties was a time when sales was becoming more the consultant-sell approach.  I think the first 100 pages of Tom's "How To Master The Art Of Selling" (not sure if that is the name of the book but I think it is) was the best material of Tom Hopkins.  So, in the dog days of summer...I like reading and studying the first 100 pages especially lakeside in Minnesota.

I'm gonna have to be Joe's buddy and say that Clive Cussler is a favorite "fun read."  But right now I'm reading Sun Tzu's "The Art of War."  And yes, that's my business read.
