Books

I don't see a lot of discussion here on the books people are reading. But I have a sales meeting posted concerning Copy Writing and the book "FL!P". The posted meetings are just ten minutes and are concept meetings to get the brain jump started. I suggest reading and sharing the book FL!P and understanding the underlying message as it relates to what we all do for a living... communicate business messages to the masses. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHQrQroZiGU

    Chris,

I like your idea. Might be nice to add a discussion thread on Books We Like. I've seen references made to various books in some of the discussions, but it could be useful to have a central location for the convenience of our members. Good call.

Look forward to watching your video on FL!P...and uploading some of your training videos here at RSC.

Thanks for the nudge. Happy New Year!

The best radio book I've read for radio sales people and their clients is "David Can Still Beat Goliath...Radio Advertising Is David's Slingshot". I know it's available on Amazon.

Followed the youtube link - I was actually excited b/c one of my clients has outdoor landscaping. I will also look into FL!P. Thanks for sharing!

I should preface this post by stating that I don't have much experience in sales - I'm a marketer first and foremost and have been given an opportunity to sell ads for a local radio group. A cursory search on Amazon led me to Paul Weyland's "Successful Local Broadcast Sales." I absolutely ate it up - finished it in a few short hours, though not because it was short on information. Again, I have limited experience, but this book got me really excited about the prospect of selling radio. http://amzn.com/0814480535 Weyland focuses on being a marketer rather than just a salesman. He discusses how to handle the standard objections - objections I often conjured when, as a media buyer, the local sales guy was pitching me on the latest three-month program (which he would have been able to address had he read this book before coming to see me). Again, all of the information here may be old hat to seasoned professionals, but as a newbie, I found it incredibly informative and motivating, and it's worth at least checking out a copy - it's $14 and a few hours well spent.
