I joined RSC on one of your first days and appreciate what you are doing for radio sales professionals like myself. Here's an idea: Does anyone as old as me remember the old "Instant Money" on what was side 2 of the old RAB sales meeting of the month cassettes? I made a lot of money adapting those spec ads for clients. I know RAB still does this on their extensive web site, but maybe a similar feature on The Cafe would work. We could upload commercials and you could have the top 10 of the week or month with their accompaning story.

    Mike:

Interesting you should mention this. RSC member Blake Messer and I have been discussing something like this and wondering if there was interest. Our thought had been to offer a spec of the week in a specific ad category, eventually building the library to many spots (hosted here on RSC or VoiceCreative.com). The commercails would be free for RSC members to adapt as you'd like. And Voice Creative would offer customization, too.

I had not approached Rebecca on this, but since you asked - Rebecca and all RSC members - is this something that would be of use to RSC Members? And if yes, what ad categories should we focus on first?

    Thanks! Neil

    Mike and Neil,
I love where this is going. I would definitely take advantage of this resource if it was available.

As for the RSC question, I really enjoy the linked sales articles that are shared on Facebook. I have learned so much through reading these. And the motivational quotes are awesome and always spot on!

Looking forward to another year of greatness!

I have to honestly say that I'm just now really starting to get into what's on the sight. I have found some of the copy writing information useful, and the promotional ideas. I come from a smaller market that covers a large radious of the map, I'd love to hear from some of the other smaller markets clear across the country as to how they are doing and some ideas promotion wise that help with long term advertising for their clients. I only have two friends so if there's anyone out there int he smaller market that would like to network with me, please feal free to send me a friend request. I have alot of great ideas but two heads are better than one as they always say. Oh, and by the way Happy Birthday!

Your first year has been a good one with a lot of positive growth on your site. The feedback offered by the other members is always a good indication as to what our radio sales industry is thinking and doing...I find this to be very important to our industry and for the members of this site.
Thank you again for your work and efforts in setting up this site and I look forward to many more years of great information and discussions.

    Mike, Neil, and Blake,

Great idea -- definitely something that would be of use to RSC members!!!! I mentioned it to Rod, and he agrees, Probably the best approach, once we've worked out the details, would be to create a new section of the forum. We'll definitely be working on this one, and if anyone wants to pass on further thoughts and ideas, that'd be great!

    Rebecca,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY and Congratulations on the success of Radio Sales Cafe.
Connecting with fellow broadcasters is always good. We live in a small community (the radio business) and the more we can work together to solve client problems, the better our community will be!

Thank you, Rick! And I agree with you wholeheartedly. It's been a lot of fun to connect with old acquaintances and make new friends via RSC -- and I am continually impressed with our members' creativity and generosity in helping each other out!

Currently I use Radio Sales Cafe for brain picking and information sharing. I am not as active with my friends on RSC as I am with my "buds" on facebook...That is most likely due to the fact that I know my "buds" on fb and am still getting to know my RSC friends. I enjoy the sharing & posting of promotional ideas and sales concepts. Happy Anniversary Radio Sales Cafe, here's to another fabulous year.

I am a very new member,(and probably older than most of you, and have only worked in sales not quite 2 years) but have really appreciated being able to get in on something like this. We are a very small station and I am the only staff in sales. To read others concerns and the replies plus looking at and/or listening to the other features has helped me to feel a part of a wider circle of sales reps, where ideas are tossed around and no question or anwser is wrong! I have really enjoyed ALL aspects of Radio Sales Cafe!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY RADIO SALES CAFE!

I have found the RSC to be a great equalizer. I can answer questions that I learned a long time ago, and then find out something new. Like a shark who has to keep moving through the water, I believe that my career could die if I don't learn something new every day.

    Daryl,

A lot of folks -- ourselves included -- are using Facebook as a catch-all for keeping up with what our friends and colleagues are doing. But it tends to be more "fun" than "business."

As you know, since you follow RSC on Facebook, Rebecca has been doing an amazing job of culling through dozens of newsletters, articles, blogs, and other resources every day, distilling the best and most relevant information for the benefit of our followers on Facebook and, to a lesser extent, Twitter. This is an added benefit for RSC members, because a fair amount of what we post on FB is not duplicated at RSC. The two services work together harmoniously, and neither is a substitute for the other.

And I can promise you, there will be no Farmville, Mafia Wars, etc. at Radio Sales Café. Just lots and lots of good radio sales stuff.

    Best,

    Rod

I find the weekly poll extremely interesting and useful. I like seeing how different people approach the same situation given their station or community size. Let's keep it going.

The senior salutes are the best I think... I use them every year. You hear other stations doing their own and they just don't sound as good. GBS does a great job .

I have been too busy to engage this fully; you know working too much "in", and not enough "on" my business. The info shared within is relevant, and ideas are solid. You are on the right track. We need people like Doug Zanger with a passion for better creative to keep our heads in the right place. Guys like him lead us to leverage less self-importance for our cherished media, and more emphasis on the message of the advertiser. For what its worth.

Reading some of the ideas under the tab "Revenue Opportunities" I came across an idea that sparked my attention. Taking that idea & working with the creative director at our radio stations, we came up with a great campaign for an ambulance company. This campaign then sparked another idea along similar lines for a specimen transport company. Now, I have been able to transform it so that any company might be able to take advantage of this opportunity! Because of this idea, there are three companies that want to know more. I love that from one idea can transform into several ideas. What was it that my manager always told me? Money flows to good ideas! Thank you Radio Sales Cafe!

Kimberly, that's great to hear! What was the particular revenue opportunity that started your train of good ideas? Hope it continues to be successful for you!

RSC and GBS - I hope you already know how I feel about you, but it here it is for the rest of the world. You have all been so very helpful. This site is a blessing to us in the radio sales world. It is great that you are progressive enough to look to use technology to make things happen. Not everyone embraces technology. To give you my condensed opinion -- it is great to know that I am not alone -- that our fellow radio sales friends are willing to assist whenever they can and many of the ideas on here are great. Happy Birthday Radio Sales Cafe'
