We thought it'd be fun to see if there are any common denominators in the types of hobbies/leisure time activities that radio sales professionals enjoy, so this week's Friday Poll question is: When you're not selling radio, what do you do for fun? What's your favorite hobby or pastime? (And if you can't settle on just one favorite, tell us your top two or three.) Thanks — and have a great weekend doing . . . whatever it is you like to do! :-)

Pretty sure this is going to be a common response today, but my #1 thing to do when I'm not selling, and even when I am selling for that matter, is golf.
    #2. Snowboarding
    #3. Building and fixing stuff

I married a part-time antique dealer, so the natural progression was to look for vintage radio stuff..Started with radios, but I'm not a techie, I've moved on to ephemera..and other radio related stuff..books, station histories, technical materials for the techies, display materials from retailers. I'm active with the New England Antique Radio Club as a dealer and board member. My personal collection is simple - doll house radios and anything else that's the same size and looks like a radio (banks, etc.). It takes up one shelf unlike radios which take up one room! I also collect barber bottles and shaving mugs. If any of you are or know antiquers, you know these would be just the beginning of an endless number of collections sprouting up around the house. My wife collects sewing machines. Anyone have an Esty? And china pincushion dolls (also used on lamps and whisk brooms) and...well...there's not room here for all of the others We also own a retail gift and specialty toy store (a great laboratory for validating radio advertising's power) and have become followers of and proponents of NH's nacescent wine industry as a result.

I enjoy catching up on my movies... nothing is better than friends, all foods with no nutritional value, a comfortable couch and entertainment. My 2nd choice of course would be hitting up the gym regularly so i can feel less guilty when the next movie night rolls around.

Maybe it's a Canadian thing, but it's all about hockey at our station! A few of us play together in a men's league here. Lots of reading to, mostly non-fiction business / sales books.

I love the outdoors and hike or bike whenever I can. I still ski once in a while, but I've had to cut back on that a little because I'm getting too old to recover from all the spills I take. I like Civil War History and can spend hours reading or re-reading different books on the subject.

Wow, Lana, your post just brought back a really good memory. When my sister and I were growing up, my mom used to throw us tea parties, with tea and all sorts of tasty treats served up on her dainty blue-and-white china tea set. We always invited "Mr. Benjamin" (aka Corky, our ever-obliging golden Lab) and made sure to have some special doggie treats on the table just for him. Thanks for the jaunt back in time! :-)

Recently, it has been to complete the remodel on our home which was finished just in time for the holidays... YAY! But normally, I try to spend as much time outdoors with my family as possible. Some of our favorite summer activities include Camping, Fishing, Hunting and Hanging out in the backyard waiting for whatever we have in the smoker to finish cooking (this last activity is doubly fun because of the anticipation the great smells entice.....but more so because it drives the neighbors crazy))

It's seasonally dependant, however snowboarding would be my number one (thank goodness the station has some trade with a local ski park) in a close second is back packing and mountain biking. If all else fails a movie marathon weekend at home will do.

I love cycling, (off-road, and road), playing the drums, roasting, brewing, and drinking fine coffee, reading theology, and hanging with my family.

Reading is always a good escape. Especially Tom Clancy or Clive Cussler. Add to that a good cigar and I'm on vacation for an hour.
When things get heavy at the station I keep some short cigars handy and step outside into the Cigar Lounge/Parking lot.
Then too my picture should give you an idea.
Of course since most of my golf is played at local charity golf tournaments I find that I'm selling even when I'm off. A.B.C. Always Be Closing.

For leisure time, I usually enjoy a good book or a good movie, and I often crochet while watching. I also enjoy shopping, taking short day trips with family and/or friends to explore the Pacific NW, and playing with our adorable black lab Belle.

Hobby? Mainly I enjoy photography when time permits, especially shooting landscapes, architecture, nature, unusual perspectives - in part because it involves getting out in the fresh air and enjoying the beauty of little corner of "paradise" (to use National Geographic's description of the Palouse country of eastern Washington and north Idaho). Some of my favorite images are posted here. I spend a few days afield in the fall, theoretically hunting deer - but mainly enjoying the outdoors. Other leisure activities I enjoy include listening to good music (classical, Big Band, soundtracks), watching Friday night movies at home, sharing good food/wine/conversation with family and friends. Simple pleasures, really.

When the weather is warm enough, fishing is my thing. Bass, crappie and catfish here in North Mississippi if a free afternoon is all I've got.But- if I'm lucky, a three day weekend will lead me to South Louisiana for some speckled trout and redfish action!

My favorite thing to do is to "get out of town".....there is nothing to do here in Monore. I enjoy fine dining in Charleston and oyster roasts in my sister's backyard. I take off for the mountains other weekends and enjoy strolling the streets of little mountain towns that have so much charm and mountain hospitality. During the week, is all radio except for Jeopardy if I'm home in time and relaxing with a glass of wine or two on my back deck dreaming about getting out of town. My goal for this year is to do things I've been putting off like the Charleston bridge walk with about 5,000 other people and also go scuba diving once or twice.

I collect in-the-box sets of old Christmas lights made between 1900 and 1950. Mostly series wired sets, although I have some parallel wired.
