I have a dream...I would love to produce radio spots for different radio stations across the country. I know the stations have in-house radio jocks to voice the spots but how can I jump in to voice and produce spots for these radio stations. I'm sure someone can use my talents but where? Does anyone have any ideas how this can be done?
Darian,
Not sure if you saw his comment in chat, but RSC member Simon Paul Rushton posted this link for another RSC member who was inquiring about voiceover work: http://rushtononradio.wordpress.com/2011/07/07/so-you-want-to-be-a-voice-over/.
Best wishes to you!
Rebecca
Thank you. I saw the site but that's a bit different from question I was asking. I am looking to produce the ads not jsut voice them. Thank you anyway. I'll keep looking around. Have a nice day.
Darian,
You might contact RSC member Jeffrey Hedquist, who runs a successful production company, or Randy Lawson of Randy Lawson Productions, and inquire about hiring on as a freelance voice talent. If you have the chops and are willing to accept their terms of employment, they might be in a position to help you further your ambitions.
As you pointed out, radio stations have their own in-house production talent -- typically the same folks who are holding down air shifts. Randy Lawson's company provides a stable of supplementary voice talent for a flat monthly fee, which is attractive to his radio station clients. Then there's the Swap-a-Spot Network run by RSC member Jennifer Bliss, that offers stations an opportunity to have diverse out-of-market voices produce ads on a barter basis.
Finally, another new RSC member recently asked how he could find out more about doing voiceovers. I suggested the following sites as worth investigating:
www.Voice123.com ... www.Voices.com ... www.BraintracksAudio.com ... www.BobSouer.com ... www.DanODay.com ... www.PatFraley.com ... www.RAPMag.com.
Thank you very much. You guys are awesome!!!
Try Swap a spot! It's a great way to get experience, and you WILL be heard all over the country. However, you do not get paid for it. It's a place where if a station is in a crunch and needs a voice, someone will produce it for them .. it's like a pay it forward type deal. Very cool people. Jennifer Bliss is the contact I believe. look her up!
Jennifer Bliss is the contact, and yes, SAS is a very cool group! Here's the link with more information and instructions on how to contact Jennifer: http://www.radiosalescafe.com/forum/topics/swap-a-spot-network-free-voice
