Are any local auto dealers participating in the "Cash For Clunkers" program? If so, they should advertise it on local radio, so that people hear the spot while driving in their clunker. Write some copy about how it works, so that potential customers know the parameters. I've heard of people that won't even go to a dealer about the program, because they "assume" they won't qualify.
Maybe the local feed store or pet store would run a "Dog Days" special, with everything canine discounted for the Dog Days of August. In fact, the 26th is National Dog Day! Maybe your station could sponsor a "pound dog" adoption at your local PetCo. PetCo may buy some spots to advertise specials for those pets adopted that day.
August is National Eye Exam Month, so maybe your area optometrist needs an ad. The 9th is Book Lover's Day and the 14th National Creamsicle Day.
Yipes, the 20th is National Radio Day! Did anybody do anything with that info? Oops!
The 23rd is Ride the Wind Day. How about an ad from your local Harley dealer? Or a station sponsored "bike night" at a local music club?
