Our station is working on having a monthly specialty promotion that is a :15 tip sponsored by a business related to the tip.
In december we are looking at going Winter Weather Driving tips and having INsurance agents, towing companies, body shops, hospitals, ect to sponsor a tip.
Is anyone else doing anything like this? My next step is to get a list of winter weather tips that people can sponsor, but I thought I would check here instead of reinventing the wheel.
Any input is appreciated! =)
We are trying this for the first time this season. We have a local towing company coming in to do the spots and a couple of interviews for ways to be prepared for the winter. What needs to be done to your car and driving techniques in snow and ice. One of our insurance companies already has some commercials about winter safety too. For now we are sticking to the single company. We may revisit this if more interest is shown.
Hi Laci~
We have a local body shop that runs tip all year and here are the winter tips they use. Hope this helps!
1- this winter Accelerate and decelerate slowly. Applying the gas slowly to accelerate is the best method for regaining traction and avoiding skids. Don't try to get moving in a hurry. And take time to slow down for a stoplight. Remember: It takes longer to slow down on icy roads.
2- Before you leave your driveway, scrape the ice and snow from every window and the exterior rear view mirrors, not just a small patch on the windshield. Don't forget to remove snow from headlights and brake lights.
3- this winter don't power up hills. Applying extra gas on snow-covered roads just starts your wheels spinning. Try to get a little inertia going before you reach the hill and let that inertia carry you to the top. As you reach the crest of the hill, reduce your speed and proceed down hill as slowly as possible.
4- Stay home this winter. If you really don't have to go out, don't. Even if you can drive well in the snow, not everyone else can. Don't tempt fate: If you don't have somewhere you have to be, watch the snow from indoors.
5- During winter months, keep abreast of weather reports in your area. If you can move a night trip to daylight hours, do so. Not only is visibility better, but if your vehicle is stalled, you are more likely to receive prompt assistance during the daytime.
