Using Social Media for Lead Generation

Curious to get your thoughts on how I can make better use of my website and blog to generate new business.

I have had my website for 6 years - www.radioadswork.com  I recently started blogging and using twitter to promote my blog.  I have also tried buying Google AdWords to capture people looking for advertising advice etc.  To me this is just another line in the water to try to get new customers.

My website is designed to be a resource to potential advertisers.  I use twitter to follow local businesses in hopes that they will follow me back and reach out to me for advice etc. The site is mainly an extension of my business card and the service I can provide to a local advertiser.

Having a website and blog certainly sets me apart from the average radio rep in SF, but I am wondering if there is something more I can do/offer/provide so that these efforts turns into a place where I can get new clients.

Your thoughts and comments are welcome thanks!

Great Justin, you're on your way to some good Social Media lead generation!  Here are a few things I did for other businesses as a website developer, and to promote some of my own sites:

    • Make your Twitter link a "badge" or a Twitter icon that you can click.  It should take viewers right to your Twitter page.
    • Create a Facebook business page - the kind of page that you "Like," as opposed to the personal page in which you "Friend" people.  Then put a Facebook badge or icon on the home page of your website along with your Twitter icon.
    • Post to Twitter, Facebook, and your blog on a regular basis.
    • Also consider LinkedIn for your social media.  LinkedIn is a business-to-business social media.  Get your peers speaking well about you and you'll find more business coming your way.

    Hope this helps.  Good Luck!

Thanks Sam - this is great advice. Much appreciated!

I definately need to add the twitter button to my home page.  I have a nice synergy between twitter and my LinkedIn account.  When I post to my blog, I also tweet it, which shows up in my LinkedIn feed.  Most of my blog traffic comes from LinkedIn.

I do get a small amount of traffic coming to my site each week, but there has been little conversion. Possibly I need a better call to action on my home page to increase my chances of picking up new advertisers.

    Thanks again for the advice

    -Justin.
