Here is this week's poll question:

September 11th marks the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.  Will your station be observing this event in any way?  If so, please tell us what you have planned.

    Thank you for sharing!

Its ironic that this was the topic for today as we are wrapping up our 9-11 audio today and will start clips on Monday thru the 11th. Attached is what we did as a sales package. It sold pretty well. I also attached a sample audio of it... its not the actual one we are going to use and it does need music but it gives you the general idea of what we are doing...

We are using Patriot Day spots provided by the fine folks at Grace Broadcasting.  We have selected sponsors lined up and will run them from Sep 1-21.

At the first anniversary of 9-11 our station purchased a large bell on a swivel and took it to the parking lot of our fire station. (We're a city of about 26,000)  We started at 8 a.m. and people would come by and ring the bell one time for each victim.  We would read the names.  It was very solemn and well received by the community. Afterward we had the bell mounted and on display at our station.  This year, to commemorate, the 10th anniversary, we are putting the bell out again at 8 a.m. on the 11th and will invite the community to again help us remember those who died on 9-11.

Thanks for the mention, Dave.  If you get a chance, could you please email me one of the finished spots (or just attach one here), so I can hear what the final product sounds like?  My email is Rebecca at gracebroadcast dot com Thanks!

Wow, what a neat and moving commemoration.  Do you have any pictures you could post?  I'd love to see the bell.

Rebecca:  I'm not sure but I know we can get one.  I will certainly make sure we take pictures that day because we will post at least a couple on our web site that day.   I'll make a note to get one sent your way as well.  Roger

    WTUZ Radio presents America Proud.

Sunday, September 11th at the Kent State Tusc Performing Arts Center.

Ten years after the tragic events of September 11th, there are lessons to be learned about patriotism and the remarkable resilience of Americans everywhere! Area organizations…our safety forces-military personal, fire departments, law enforcement officers-including local, county and state are testament to the enduring belief that good CAN come out of a tragedy. WTUZ 99.9FM invites you to bring your family and join us starting at 12:30 in the parking lot of the Kent State Performing Arts Center. Bring your cameras; visit with those very local forces that continue to keep our area safe. Inside will be displays and staff from the American Red Cross, the Emergency Management Agency, Civil Air Patrol, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts. At 2pm, join us inside the auditorium for a short program on patriotism. Hear John Herzog speak about patriotism, watch a few short clips on patriotism, and stand together as we say the pledge of allegiance and sing the National Anthem. Tickets are required to be inside that day…just stop by the Performing Arts Center-Monday through Friday. There’s so much going on, you will NOT want to miss this day. Come stand with us so that the future may learn from the past. They stood for America ….stand with them this day….

AM 1510, KSPA here in Ontario CA will, of course, be broadcasting the Grace series of 9-11 tenth anniversary tributes. We are also planning to carry the Mormon Tabernacle Choir program '9-11: Rising Above". It is narrated by Tom Browkaw. This is a free 30 minute musical tribute produced by Bonneville Broadcasting out of Salt Lake. Like Grace, they produce special programs for individual holidays. These shows are free, but Bonneville do not allow for sponsorshihp. Of course, I have clients who run promotional announcements suggesting that you join them in listening to these shows. The choir does not preach. While spiritual in nature, the shows are musical and uplifting.

Call them toll free at 800-247-6655.

Joe, thanks for the mention of the GBS 9/11 features, and thanks for posting about the Mormon Tabernacle Choir program - that sounds like a first-class tribute!

Our company is going to invitie local first responders to record PSAs and we'll air them on 9/10 and 9/11 on our stations.  I appreciate the Sales idea from Jessica Norgaard.  I hope we can do that next year!
