Pre-existing Jingle

I've got a client who has used the same jingle for at least 30 years.  Now the only "original" he has is on a cassette.  You can imagine how degraded the sound has gotten.  Is there a jingle company out there that would re-do an existing jingle pretty much the same way it was done 30 years ago?

    Sam,

We have several fine jingle producers and production studios amongst our members.  I expect you'll hear from at least some of them in response to your query.  Not sure how difficult it may be to assemble an ensemble that sounds like a dead ringer for the original group, but you never know...

Is the company that originally did the jingle out of business?  If not, they might still have the master reel in their archives, from which they could make a digital copy.  Failing that, maybe it's time for a fresh approach...different singers and arrangment, same tune.

    Good luck!

I think the client has to expect certain differences.  I haven't asked about the original company, though.  Thanks for the thought.

    Hi Sam -

Sounds like a good challenge.  We can do whatever your client would like, including an absolutely faithful re-creation of what he has on cassette.  We have lots of experience in reproducing old jingles, or in keeping some elements of the original, but bringing the musical arrangement into the 21st century.  Please check out my profile page for lots of samples. What business is your client in?

They're in the bug-killin' business, Geoff - pest control.

I love it!  Please call me at 1-800-246-2446 or email me at [email protected] so I can follow up.  In the meantime, here's a cute n' catchy pest-control jingle we did in Hawaii recently for Sandwich Isle Termite and Pest Control.

Why not have an "American Idol" style competition for someone local to do it? Great promotion/sales opportunity there. Instead of paying for a new jingle...you could be making money. And think of the buzz if you're in a small-to-medium market!

    Sam,

    Speaking of bug-killin'...

Ever heard this one?  (It's one of my all-time faves.)

    Too late!    :-)

I've seen this idea tried in a number of other markets with varying degrees of embarrassment.  I've never heard of anything usable come out of a contest like this.  But if you'd like to have some fun with it and run it as a 2-month promotion, go for it. As Greg suggests, you'll get lots of buzz.  Just make sure you have an exit-strategy in place, so you're not locked-in to using a winning entry that is somewhat less than the best it can be.

You certainly don't have to use me - there are lots of experienced 'music for marketing' producers out there.  But please don't put the image of your client's business into the hands of a complete amateur.  If this was medicine, they'd call that malpractice.

Let me know how it turns out. You can add another prize to the contest -  if one of the contestants actually comes up with something good (for zero budget) I'll hire them!
