My first thought, without any research, was that marble is a softer stone than granite, and would therefore decay faster. So for a life to be remembered (company) only uses materials that last. I've been working with a local monument company since 1991. It started as a cold call for a series of Memorial Day features a colleage of mine (Rod Schwartz) produces every year and has blossomed into a 20 year relationship. Over the years I've probably written over 125 commercials for them. At first you'd think it's very difficult, but just remember you're talking to someone who's just lost a loved one or who's getting up in their years or knows someone who is. Tell a story about a relationship you've had with a loved one, the time you went to the park... When you approach it from that standpoint, it's actually pretty easy.
