We're a large regional station and have a ton of fairs and summer events that advertise with us. Last year we held a Summer Tour giveaway.
The sales reps worked with the seasonal accounts- fairs, truck pulls, demo derbys, races, etc. and got tickets for first, second and third place winners. We made prize bundles. The grand-prize winner got tickets to every event; the second got slightly less; and the third got some tickets.
From there, we sold discounted remote packages to local businesses where they could have a live broadcast where people registered. We drew finalists to be in the final drawing from each business. They also got 40, 30-second commercials; listed on our website as a sponsor; listed on the produced promos as a sponsor.

To help get a restaurant on in the fall for a long-term schedule and sell additional schedules to various businesses, we did a contest based on the movie: "Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!"
It was "Win a DJ Double Date." We had a local car dealer let us borrow a brand-new Mustang convertible, had dinner for 4 (DJ & date with the winner & date), passes to a movie, dessert afterwards, etc- even flowers for the winner. It was everything to make it a good date night.
Listeners would call in to qualify when they heard a certain country song that talked about dates. We ran the promotion for two weeks and then drew a grand-prize winner from the qualifiers. It was well-received and a lot of fun for both the DJ and the winner. Plus, we added revenue in the 3rd quarter.

Our station over in Crescent City California has done a Christmas promotion for many many years that has been very successful. We go out looking for 47 radio sponsors of this program that we call Christmas Concentration. How it works is: Each business buys on for a sponsor ship, anywhere from $199 to $399 a month, this will also be based on your price per spot. Each business is entitled a certain amount of commercials based upon which package they choose. The billing cycle is Nov, Dec, and Jan... The game itself is played in Dec. So, billing is for three months, and the game is for one. The clients love it because each one donates a gift of $50 value or greater, and their ads can be run anywhere during the holdiay season. Its a great way to amp up Christmas sales. Anyway, your on air talent issues each business 2 numbers that are held in secrecy. Several times during each day you run a giveaway. You ask for the ninth caller and they get to play Christmas concentration. They try to match up numbers to win the prizes that these businesses have donated. If your on air talent only breaks in about 4 times a day. It should take almost up till Christmas day to get rid of all the gifts. (It increases billing, it encourages listeners to listen at all times, and most of its a fun promotion during the holiday season). If you decide you would like anymore info on this, or it may be something you would like to look into for your guys station give me a call at 707-464-9561... My name is mark, would be happy to chat with you.

I like this idea! We actually talked about a 'match' game similar to this. I;m glad to hear that people were attracted to it because we'll be putting a new station on very soon in our area and this would be great to put onto the air to kick it off! I will call if we have questions - thanks Mark!
