Friday Poll: Group Discussions - What Do You Think?

Since Radio Sales Café has an open chat function (click here for more info), RSC member Joel Swanson suggested that we schedule group discussions from time to time, so that members could share their views on pertinent sales and marketing issues in real time. Rod and I think this is an excellent idea, and we'd like to get your input. Accordingly, this Friday's poll consists of three questions: 1) Would you be interested in participating in group discussions and if so, how often? 2) What three days/times would be best for you? 3) What topics would you be interested in discussing? Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions!

I would be interested in participating on a bi-weekly schedule, timing is the hard part. My thoughts would be to do it later in the day on a Wednesday. In terms of topics, I think everybody would be interested in discussing generating new local direct in a tough economy along with dealing with lower CPP's.

I belive Joel's idea is great. I would be interested in spending some time exchanging ideas.
Earlier in the morning on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday would be better for me....
Winning sales strategies... successful promotions... overcoming problem accounts... and in our region, unique to the rest of the country, the fact that many businesses are doing well and don't feel the need to advertise..
Can't promise I'll be there for every one, but I'll do my best.
I have a feeling its going to be hard to get people together at the same time, but maybe recording the chat channel and having that available as an archive might be helpful.?.

    Wednesdays or Thursdays is fine...

I would like to discuss customers who jump from newspaper, to magazine, to cable TV and then try radio only to wonder "Why nothing seems to work" or make them number one in the market after a brief trial.

    How to effectively recruit salespeople.

Yes, I would love to participate in group discussions any time we had them. I would suggest starting with once a month and if the group feels like there needs to be more, then that could change. I honestly don't have the time to have a discussion twice a week. We are so short staffed that my time is limited.
For me, Wed, Thurs, and Fri are best and if you had the discussions in the afternoon on the East Coast then it would be 4 hours earlier for me in Alaska so I would be able to participate as long as they were after 1pm Eastern Standard Time.
I would love to cover topics like low cost promotions, how to hire and train good salespeople etc. I am also in an area like Rick where many businesses are still doing well and the down economy hasn't affected us as much so people don't feel the need to advertise. Joel has a lot of topics that I think all of us could benefit from. I think sharing positive information can only help all of us regardless of the market. I am open to just about anything.

    1. Yes. Maybe once every other week.
    2. Early Morning Mon, Tues or Fri.
    3. New Business, Agency accounts, client contacts.

Timing might be a problem.... early morning preferred... and NOT on Monday or Fridays.
Sales resources, successful promotion ideas and management tips would be great topics.
    Thanks
