Coffee Shop Promotion

I am looking for a promotion idea for a local small coffee shop. They dont have much of an advertising budget so I was thinking if I could incorporate a promotion to help build top of mind awareness that would help them. They are part of a chain so I cant do anything on the cups (like putting station logo or anything like that) Wondering what other markets have done in the past? I welcome your thoughts and ideas!

    Jessica,

How about getting a new musical jingle created for your Coffee Shop client?

Check out the new jingle we just created for Rockin Joe's Coffee Shop.

I am assuming coffee shop to mean more like Starbucks than a Denny's.

Have the station do remotes on certain mornings and give away coffee. People go nuts for their favorite coffee drink on the house.

"Coffee for life" this could be good this time of year. Have people mail, fax, email, drop off what they or their civic group , church or just a group of friends is doing to make a positive change in the life of someone less fortunate. The winning entry judged by the station, wins coffee for life. (1 coffee per day for life).

Have the morning show show up at fires stations, local volunteer organizations anywhere people are helping other people with a big tray of coffees and bounce back coupons for their next visit.

Do a joint promotion with a local retailer "wake up and shop" where they get a coupon for a free coffee drink every time they shop.

Hire me to write a killer ad that everybody talks about (I'm cheap and good).

    Hi Jessica,

We have a small market coffee shop and they do a daily give away of a coffee certificate. We use trivia to give it away. The cost is pretty minimal and they provide us with a stack of coffee certificates to give away. They have been doing this for 5 years on our morning show and it is so successful that it is the only radio advertising they do. The certificates expire in 1 month, must have a station employee's signature and are good for whatever type of coffee the customer usually gets. They only do a 15 second ad attached to the actual promotion but it is incredibly memorable and rings their register. Hope that helps.

I have a local coffee shop, also with a small budget. We did a "Coffee of the Day" promotion where I went to the coffee shop and picked up whatever their specialty coffee was that day. They have all kinds of fun names for them, The Snickers, Kit Kat, Funky Monkey. I would give it to the DJ and have him taste test it on air and we would do a little back and forth on him trying to guess the flavors and what the name means, etc. Was a lot of fun. We did that every day for just about 9 months. If their budget does not allow every day, maybe pick a special day like Friday for the Coffee of the Week. We had to drop it a few months ago (one of their other locations was struggling) but I still get comments on the street about it.

Take a key artist in your format (i.e. Beatles, Elvis, etc. In our case it's Sinatra.) Feature one song at a fixed time in the AM and call it "Coffee with Frank". Or Sir Elton or who ever. It runs Monday thru Friday at the same time. Your shop is only buying 5 fixed position morning drive spots. Give him some added value promos and sign him up for 26 weeks. You can thank me later.

    Jessica,

To whom do they cater primarily? Businesspeople? Shoppers? Students?

If businesspeople, for example, since they're the same people you and your colleagues are calling on every day, why not simply print out a bunch of FREE COFFEE cards (your logo on the back) to hand out to clients as you visit them? Often people ordering coffee will have something else, so that your coffee shop still has a chance to make something on such transactions. Coffee costs so little (or is marked-up so heavily, take your pick) that it's an ideal medium for this sort of promotion. Everyone wins.

Sampling is a time-honored way to attract attention and business.

    Nice - congratulations, Jessica!

I'm guessing that the fact that YOU liked it helped to sell the client on it, too.
