Hi, Joel -
I'm going to be putting together a new spot for a body shop client who
hasn't changed his copy in many years.
He also does towing and some time back he acquired a super-big "drive-on" tow truck, capable of handling over 4 tons. So, I'm playing with a bit of lighthearted banter featuring Steve's wife Theresa, doing a little tongue-in-cheek boasting about her husband's prowess: "My husband can lift 4 tons with his big tow." I think it'll be fun, and something a little different from the full-sing jingle we've been using for years.
If your body shop guy doesn't have a tow truck, maybe he could rent or trade for reciprocal service a crane or man-lift from a local heavy-equipment rental business. He could dangle a brightly painted vehicle from it, ideally alongside a high-traffic spot near his shop, and invite passersby to guess its weight. Closest guess wins a new paint job, 2nd and 3rd runners-up get credit toward a paint job, and all entries win a discount coupon toward a paint job. Assuming that a percentage of the people who enter the contest do so because they have the need or capacity for a paint job, the client ends up with a prospect list for follow-up calls. And because the contest involves some skill the element of chance is removed, eliminating the problem of conducting a lottery-type promotion.
Food for thought, anyway.
Best,
Rod
