Does your station carry anything special for April Fool's Day - morning show gags, fake news stories, or commercials for made-up advertisers or prospects?

We'd love to hear about anything special your station is doing on April 1st. Use the Reply box below.

Well.  I can't say we're doing anything this year, but I can tell you what NOT to do.  A number of years ago one of our morning shows pulled a "War of the Worlds" stunt, with an entire theatre of the mind thing about a dam outside the city failing.  Despite it being completely and utterly ridiculous ("I'm calling in from the river, floating on a dead elk carcass.  From here I can see that the 'K' and the 'R' in  Keep Your Forests Green, painted on the face of the dam, are leaking, and the 'G' is completely missing.

Since I needed new friend anyway, it was swell to hear from the Director of Operations of the dam.  And then the attorney for the Director of Operations of the dam.

And then enjoy reading a scathing newspaper article about it the next morning.

The moral to the story: Don't do drugs.

That dam story sounds like it's in the same league as WKRP's "turkey drop."

Don Frei at Howard Hughes Appliance emailed me today to share a story carried in the Brand Source buying group newsletter. It was great to see his radio advertising given a place of prominence in an industry that's fallen in love with digital marketing.
