From Amy Dillon: Please share your ideas for County Fairs. We have access to the stage. In the past we've done different major contests like Wayne County Idol (our local version of American Idol). Looking for more ideas. Thanks!
We did this at the county fair - "Crack the Code - WIN THIS CABIN!"
Teamed up with a local shed/garage/building dealer (that's him in the photos in blue!) and we did a guaranteed promotion with a safe - that's it on the media cart - and each day of the fair everyone was invited to enter their code onto the keypad for a chance to unlock the safe and win the insulated building. Building value was around $15,000 and included delivery anywhere in our county for free (we're in the 9th largest geographic county in the U.S.) and we got to use the cabin to broadcast live for "Eight Days of Awesome" from the fair.
The broadcast was sponsored by local merchant advertisers (various priced packages with live mentions plus promos and certain number of :30's) and the cabin was provided by our client and he also received an ad package. We 'rented' the safe through a promotions company and bought an insurance policy (exhibitors insurance) to hold harmless the radio station, fair and building dealer in case of accident with coverage of a million dollars plus we had physical damage coverage if anything happened to the building.
Great promotion, lots of interest, many talking about it and merchants came to us saying, "Hey, could we do this at our place of business with a chance to win a tractor?"
LOVE THIS ....I have a ton more questions! Did you give the building away? How did listeners get a code?
Assuming you did giveaway a $15k building....Was it a joint trade? How much advertising did the Building Dealer receive for his $15k building? You say The broadcast was sponsored by local merchant advertisers
(various priced packages with live mentions plus promos and certain number of :30's) How so...was it ...This hour is powered by -ABC Horse Steakhouse! What did you net on this promotion? Fill in some holes for me. I'd love to do this or something like it! Thanks Robert
