How do you like to spend your vacation days?

We like to go on a cruise, with no Internet, no phones, and no TV. We get the lowest price room, because we are barely in it.
From Bob Sherman: Hmm, I know what I LIKE to do. However, like many radio companies, account execs who work on straight commission, also get no paid vacation time. So taking time off is equivalent to taking a pay cut. It's manageable but you never feel like you can afford to fully enjoy your time away.
Bob Sherman's comments remind me of what Roy Williams had to say about the relationship between Time and Money: we exchange some of one to have more of the other. Sometimes the psychological, emotional, and physical benefits of the change of pace and focus that a vacation provides can result in more efficient and productive work upon returning to the normal routine.
Being connected to work 24/7 via computers and smartphones, it's harder for some of us to take a complete break. Last year my wife and I took an Alaskan cruise (two firsts for us); being unplugged for a week was incredibly rejuvenating. Makes me smile to think of it even now!
For most of my working life, my wife and I did not take long vacations; just a few days off with the kids, now and again. But starting in 2010, my wife and I have taken 7-10 days every September to celebrate our anniversary. Mostly, it's been trips to the Oregon or Washington coast, enjoying the beauty and majesty of the Pacific Northwest, the Cascades and the ocean shore. Nothing extravagant, but always refreshing.
Give me a Tom Clancy novel and a good cigar and I will sit out in my back yard. If a client needs me, or I get a sudden great idea, I have my cell phone and my tablet.
I suppose I could get programming to get me some Disney comps but why bother. I want the rest.
