Randy Doty asks, What would you recommend for a brand-new station type? Meaning, the stations have been in existence, but sales on the stations were nonexistent, so it's like starting fresh. How would you recommend spurring the sides? One station format is classic hits, 50s 60s and 70s. The format for the other station is top hits/country/rock/pop. Both stations have no DJs. Over the last three years, the stations have had very few advertisers; however, the stations are pretty popular. It's a beach community.
Right away I see three problems.
First, You music serves an older age demo. I am 70 and I bought the first Beatle recorsd when they came out (High school class of "64)
If your audiance remembers the British Invation they are older than the standard target demo. Move your music up to '80s, '90s and '00s.
Second, hire presonable DJs. Not wold Stern wannabe's. Freindly talkers. No shouters or puckers.
Thhird, get the sales staff engaged in the community. Chamber of Commerce, Charity golf tournaments. Have your sales manager join Rotary.
Your station is stagnating. make it the "Must be heard" sound of the town.
