Happy Friday, everyone!
Here is this week's poll question:
Where do you usually meet with your clients? Their office or place of business? A restaurant or coffee shop? How often do you meet them at your station? Where is the most unusual place you've made a sales presentation?
Looking forward to reading your replies!
We have such a unique non-corporate station(s) we love to bring clients to the station. Everyone is very approachable and we have fun here and the client can see it first hand by giving them lunch with some jocks and station employees. Our Stations and the employees sell themselves, no presentation sometimes needed. Other wise where do we meet with or clients? Simple YES to all your locations you suggested. I also take clients to our amazing Zoo since it's just 5 minutes from us and is award winning. :-)
Given we have a well-equipped conference room with a big screen, projector, awesome sound, etc, and given that for many, touring a radio station is pretty cool, I try to have as many meetings at the station as possible. I think it helps establish our presence and credibility in the minds of our clients. While they're at the station, I can record a short interview, and perhaps generate some really good content for radio comemercials. Plus we get to show our great hospitality to them while they're here with water, coffee, soda, cookies, and lots of smiles.
When meeting at the station doesn't work out for whatever reason, I try to meet at a coffee shop or restaurant. They may still have to take care of something during our meeting via their cel phone, but the chance of holding their attention for a bit longer is greater.
And them sometimes it's a better idea to meet at the clients office and do the best I can. On the plus side, I can often learn things about the client at their office that will help me relate to them and market them. Over the course of multiple meetings I think it's good to have met both at their place and ours.
I never understand people who try to get a deal done over lunch. HOW can I ask for $25,000, show ROI, Play Ads and work copy with my customer munching a Tuna Sandwich????
At the station is the best place, playing the ads in the studio or in front of the Big Screen.
Most unusual? A bed!
I had forgotten about this one, but here goes. I wasn't the AE on this account, just a tag-along on this call. The client was a pig. He ran a dumpy cigar shop in the dingy part of town where the crappy theaters are...the ones that the punk rock & B-Rate bands play. South Broadway for those familiar with Denver.
We met at the shop, but he didn't want to meet there...we'd be more comfortable upstairs, he said. He then he led us down the alley and up the stairs around back. This guy owned a studio apartment above the cigar shop, that he called: (apologies)... "The Stabbin' Cabin". It wasn't his home, but a little playground if you will. It had a huge bed that took up almost all of the floor space, a small chair a microwave & a tiny fridge.
I suppose it had a bathroom, but I wasn't interested.
The AE was a vivacious woman who liked to have a good time and climbed right up on that big ol' bed beside the pig and gave her presentation. I sat in the chair contemplating what a jump out the tiny window might be like.
BEST. THING. I HAVE READ TODAY.
LOL!

OMG that's hilarious and yet so creepy at the same time! haha
