Happy Friday, everyone!
Recently I saw a question posed by John Perras, a Toronto GSM, on a LinkedIn discussion board, and I thought it would make an excellent topic for our weekly poll:
Can anyone suggest a great motivational video for a sales group to watch?
We hope you'll link to your favorites in your replies . . . looking forward to reading your answers!
212 "The Extra Degree" by Sam Parker & Mac Anderson
Some of the oldest are still the best. "Second Effort" by Vince Lombardi.
Art Williams' "Just Do It" speech is the best I've ever heard. I play this 20 minute long video a coupe of times a year at our sales meetings. There are shorter versions on YouTube, but I'd recommend this version. It's rather old, so the quality is less than spectacular- but the content is literally the best EVER.
FISH! is an excellent and engaging team-building story about the Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle. The place used to be like many sales teams I've worked with over the years: disgruntled and angry and hating their jobs. And one day, somebody threw a fish. (The original video, only 18 minutes long, has spawned hours and hours of support materials. Can't vouch for any of those.)
"Give 'Em The Pickle - Customer Service Training." This is by Bob Farrell, from Farrell's Ice Cream Parlors fame. It's a light, fun video that is good to play when you want to emphasize the importance of making your customers/clients feel special for doing business with you and your organization.
This video is REALLY inspirational. I have played it for the entire staff at one time or another: It's Randy Pausch's Last Lecture given at Carnegie Mellon. It is definitely a one-of-a-kind lecture that made the world stop and pay attention. I even played this for my kids. You owe it to yourself to watch this one....
This is only indirectly related to sales, but it should get your creative juices flowing.
Two unique 'movies' that can inspire, are The Pursuit of Happyness, with Wil Smith and The Secret. Our GM has all new sales people watch those two movies at the end of their training period.
The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard- This is one of my favorites, staring Jeremy Piven.
From the guys behind Talladega Nights and Step Brothers comes one of the most outrageous comedies of the year! Jeremy Piven (“Entourage”) leads an all-star comedy cast including Ed Helms (The Hangover), David Koechner (Get Smart) and Ving Rhames (I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry) in this hilarious look at the rowdy world of competitive car dealerships. Smooth-talking salesman Don Ready (Piven) and his crazy crew of closers have just one weekend to move over 200 cars and prove that when it comes to conning, conniving and all kinds of bad behavior, they’ve got the goods!
This is a little raunchy at times, so check with HR or watch it off site during an informal get together. Rated RRRRRRRR...
Said it before and I'll say it again. The best motivational film is Alec Baldwin's scene in Glengary Glen Ross.
Always be closing.
Second that. Having been a fan of the PPFM for decades, it was a joy to see the video made about them - a great illustration of how combining esprit d'corps with fun can turn an ordinary business into an extraordinary experience - for customers, employees, and visitors alike. Highly recommend!
