I am involved with a group of stations in need of sales people with radio sales and telemarketing experience. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on where to find qualified people for such a project? Thanks for your help.
We have had some success working with our local university. They have an excellent communications and marketing department so we've offered internships than can turn into full time offers. Its not fool proof, we've had a couple that haven't worked out, but its a nice way to maintain a relationship with the college and find some new talent. I have to say though, that sometimes the reps we've hired that have the most outside experience have not always been the best. Make sure to check into why a rep with 15-20 or more years of experience is not still working at their old station. Sometimes old dogs refuse to learn new tricks.
Thanks Lynn...College students sounds like a good option
not being sarcastic, but......pay them! Radio is notorious for low pay, no pay-"recoverable" commission only arrangements. Because of this sales positions go unfilled, because frequently, a candidate can make more at Starbucks or working at a bar for 30 hours a week or so.
