Friday Poll: Does Your Station Have a Radio Auction or Shopping

    Happy Friday, everyone!

Here is this week's poll question:

Does your station have a radio auction or shopping show? Is it a true auction, where the highest bidder wins the merchandise, or do you sell items at a fixed percentage of retail? How often does it air? How long is the show? Do you conduct it on the air, online, or both? What does the advertiser receive? What are the pitfalls?

Looking forward to reading your replies!

From the RSC Facebook page, a comment by Nick Briggs:

Our station does not have such an auction. Our competitor which plays the same genre does on Sunday morning and takes over 100 calls during a three hour stretch. What do we do? Play 100% Commercial - Free music during that time AND we benefit from all of their listeners who despise the Flee (Bag) Market.

I did Radio Auctions in the old days.  back then it was fun and it was novel.  Today it is VERY old hat.  People can shop on their phones and the Internet and Amazon can get you anything you want by tomorrow.  Don't believe me?

That being said there is still a way to make $$ with an auction type WEB SITE.  we created HalfBuckCafe.com where we sell off gift certificates we have traded for advertising.  It makes money and does not train wreck the format!

I might add that influence.fm is developing HalfBuckCafe.com so any station can use it to turn their trade into cash! We should be ready in the first quarter of the year.

We do Tradio where listeners can list moveable, personal items for sale.  We announce our Tradio program after the Noon Report on Mondays and Tuesdays and in French on Monday and Saturday mornings.  We get a very high response.  We also have the Tradio page on our website.

We do! It's called the Partyline Show. We air it Monday through Friday mid morning. I co-host  and listeners are encouraged to call into the show and list their items. They can email them as well. It's buy, sell, trade...and a little senseless banter. OK maybe a little more than that. I also post them on our website, all done free of charge to the listener. We also allow listeners to voice their opinion. Every Friday one of our regular listeners calls in his game predictions for the upcoming week. We have a lot of fun with our show.

Yes! We have done what we call "Steve's Store".(Steve was the dj on that station at the time this was created) Its a weekly 1 hour show that we do on our AM station. Clients give products and services. We sell them at a minimum 40% off. Once items are sold and paid for by our listeners, the client receives 100% of the retail value in advertising based on rate card rates. LIsteners can buy all week too. But new items for the week are available on the live show Fridays first. We also have the list of inventory on our website for the listeners to view.

http://www.basinsradio.com/pages/18315990.php is the site on our website that has it.

We are on our 13th or so year of it and its a huge success for everyone involved. Works really great for small businesses.

We have Bid for Bargains (although you actually don't bid). Everything is on-line. We promote on-air, our website, and social media. At least 20% off and could be a lot more. Not on-air. Advertiser gets 100% of retail value at trade rate.
