Friday Poll: Would You Like to See New Groups on RSC?

    Happy Friday, everyone!

We’re thinking of creating some new groups on Radio Sales Café that would allow for more focused discussions.  Possibilities include a group for sales managers only, a group for sales reps only, a group for reviewers who’d be willing to critique spots, groups specific to a geographical region, and so on.

So here is this week’s poll question:

Would you find it useful to join and participate in groups like this?  Which of the ones mentioned above would you be interested in?  What other groups would you like us to consider?

Thanks for your input; we look forward to reading your replies!

I would love to see a Sales Manager Group!

I have been a sales manager. Management and selling are virtually the same thing. Don't abandon your sales help for the exalted position of management.

In my long career, I have returned to a small local station, and it is very different than the large stations I used to work at. I need more support for my small station status.

As far as online forums and web groups go, radio sales is a niche enough group as it is. If it's broken down into even smaller groups, I would suggest an alert system to notify group members when something has been posted within their group. Not necessarily an email alert (however, a settings option for individual group members who would prefer that would be good), but at least something to let them know as soon as they log on to RSC that there has been activity in one of their interest groups.

I'd definitely be interested in the spot review/critique group you suggested. I love the opportunity to help a fellow sales associate write an ad that really works, and in turn, appreciate that help with my own work.

The ones that would work for me are the sales rep and a group that is willing to critique spots.  The alert system mentioned by Joe Johns would be a great way to find out when there are new postings.

    Thanks!

I enjoy the larger scope.  Having been a sales manager and leading newer sales people now, the management and motivational subjects are informative and entertaining.  Script reading, writting, and reviewing are things that I feel everybody should be doing, we are either growing or going.  As a marketing rep, the challenges that we all face are often universal in general even if many of the particulars change, so these are great info and the responces are often more informative as to taking on a situation.  Of course I could join more than one group, but that would be about the same as it is now where I can choose to get involved with this discussion or that one.

It seems this is a great forum as it is.

I think the forum, as is, is a great benefit to all. Sales folks and managers are all heard and that's a benefit. Sometimes, what managers think is a great idea or policy change is a disaster at the implementation level so sometimes that may be avoided. It's a benefit to sales people to hear the ideas from managers, particularly those not your own.

Thanks, everyone, for your input!  We'll give the idea of groups some more thought and let you know what we come up with!

I've enjoyed reading the responses to this question and have gone back-and-forth on the desirability of a sales managers group.  In the interest of more robust and meaningful discussion on topics where there might be some disagreement between salespeople and managers, I'm inclined to keep things as they are and give everyone a chance to participate in conversations about both sales and management issues.

However, I do like the idea of a spot review/critique group where honest feedback can be solicited, given and received with a shared commitment to being objective and truly helpful.

I like the way you think, Rod.
Keeping the forums open for everyone to participate, without segregation between salespeople and managers, is definitely the best way to go! If that idea of solidarity on this site is coupled with a designated area to seek and offer assistance for writing top-notch ads, RSC (which is already immensely helpful) can be an even greater benefit to this industry.

    Thanks!

We just added a radio spot critique/review group; to join this group -- either to post spots for review, review spots that others submit, or both -- just click here:  http://www.radiosalescafe.com/group/radio-spot-review-critique-group.
