Question: How do you feel about putting a store that sells cigar

Hello I am new to radio sales, and I have been at my job since Jan. of this year. I was trying to stay away from Cigarette & Tobacco Outlet stores, just because of the kids that listen. I didn't want them to think we are promoting smoking. I hear it on other radio stations,I see it every where I was really trying to stay clear of that. Our stations are all family friendly advertisers, and there is a block of cigarette stores in a small community next to us. So I am looking for your thoughts on this. Thank you.

We run one of these stores on our stations, but remember you CANNOT advertise cigarettes.  Attached is an old article you might find helpful.

Thank you  so very much, how would you talk about a store like that on the radio when all they sell is cigarettes?

I don't think you can have it both ways. If you don't want anything on your airwaves that may negatively impact kids that's commendable. But, that opens up a lot of other product categories. Soft drinks, fast food, etc.?

My approach would be to go to your family friendly advertisers and explain the situation: You would prefer to do more business with them, and referrals they could make, but that cigarette stores are making some noise about getting on the air and you have the inventory.
