We are still trying to move into the 21st century. We want to offer live streaming but are running into all kinds of issues with royalties, ASCAP, SESAC, etc. We are really looking for a turn-key company that can take care of the streaming and the royalties under one umbrella, but we’re beginning to think that does not exist...or may not be the smart way to go. We need suggestions from stations that are streaming. Who are you using and how are you handling the royalties?
Your help is appreciated.

We use securenet. (www.securenetsystems.net) It's around $90 a month for a very nice streaming package, and they make the calculations so you can easily report to sound exchange and then make that payment to Sound Exchange. If you don't have too many listeners, or if you don't play a lot of music, then the Sound Exchange payment shouldn't exceed $500 for a year, but if you accumulate a lot of listeners with a music station, it can be quite a bit more. However, streaming is how more and more people listen today, since Smart Phones are the new transistor radios. With Secure Net, there are many ways to monetize your streaming, and many local advertisers will be interested. We have a local Shelter Insurance agent who has a 10-second video pre roll ad on our media player. It more than pays for our streaming. Go for it!
