Not sure how many of you knew Al, but he was a great guy. I had the privelege of working for Al two different times, in St. Cloud, MN and in Detroit Lakes, MN. He passed away yestrday (Thursday) at the age of 86.
His funeral is Monday. You can check it out on-line at the Williams-Dingman Funeral home in St. Cloud.
Thank you for posting this, Joel. I've called on a Leighton Broadcasting station before. Nice to know about the man behind the company, but sorry to hear about his passing.
I knew Al back in the 1970's when he would come to Tulsa, OK to be involved in
Jim Williams' Sales and Sales Management classes. He took a lot of those ideas
and always seemed to implement them in ways that would be good radio and make
money to boot. I am just seeing this note about his passing in 2012 and wanted to add
my best wishes to his friends and family.
Yup. Al was a great community broadcaster and an aggressive advocate for radio as a primary medium. His success in Detroit Lakes and St. Cloud (if memory serves) was enviable. And he was a good guy.
