Hello RSC members,
Good afternoon to all of RSC members. It's good to finally be on board, I hope to be friends with all of its members.
Since this is what the site does, let's start with a cool scenario. Our group (KOFH Maxima staff) has a business meeting with the Marine Corps tomorrow. Any ideas of how to get them to advertise on our station? Anyone ever work with Military personnel? Please let me know your thoughts...
Thank you,
Oscar Felix Jr.
Hi Oscar.
Military recruitment spending has gone the way of much ad agency spending.....reduced and limited. The Marines will be looking to recruit, but not just bodies anymore. All branches of the military have raised the acceptance criteria for new recruits.
Keys: 1) The budget cycle for most branches of the Miliary was July - June. All the money spent is overseen by the General Accouunting Office in Washington DC. 2) Most branches today are looking for outdoor or event related exposure. There may be dollars there for NTR events, High School Events or events that can be manuevered into on site recruitment opportunties for the recruiters. 3) Usually overlooked is reserve build up. In some cases there may be dollars for reserve duty recruitment. This will depened on the region that you are in.
Good Luck
They will be looking at your demographics. If it fits your good.
The armed services, as a whole, like to do TV. If they are doing TV in your market, tell them you can increase the effectiveness of their TV campaign substantially. Radio is the most affordable way to achieve frequency.
Hi Oscar, I (KBEK 95.5 FM Mora) have been working with the military for several years. It started with a program called Military Moments, where I recorded veterans experiences in the military to air during the weeks leading up to Veterans Day. I found Vietnam veterans at Vietnam Veterans of America, where they have a local unit in Isanti. they also helped me get in touch with WWII members and some I found by calling nursing homes. I was lucky enough to find a local veteran who was on the Arizona. Great stories, A LOT of production time, but we used them for Memorial, Veterans and Armed Forces Day. Sponsors included Beyond the yellow ribbon, American Legion Posts and VFW as well as some retail businesses. So it seems the Marine would jump right on.
Hope this helps

George,
Thanks for replying. Very helpful stuff.
Hi Diana,
Reminds of when my Grandfather recorded stories on a small recorder for my American History class... My teacher was so thrilled and I was so proud of my Grandfather for sharing his stories w/ us. I will definately use this idea in the near future...
