    Hello All,

Baseball season is here already, hard to believe it but here we are. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas about categories that would be a good fit for prospecting or cold calling about doing games on our station this season? So far I have come up with a list of Lawn and Garden, Florists, Golf Courses and Pest Control companies.

    Thanks,

    Andy

    Andy,

Baseball is probably the most universal sport in the US. If you are selling a local team..or a Major league franchise..everyone is a prospect. We're in Red Sox Nation....we have vinyl siding, athletic shoes, car dealer, security camera co., landscapers, roofers, C-store, video store, and others.  Years ago I had a Yarn Shop sponsor. She insisted every year that I save her a sponsorship..reason being...she said women listen to baseball on radio because it was the one sport they understand. A little sexist, but this in was the 70's. How about a beverage distributor, local bank, insurance company, employment recruiter?....If you carry a major league team they're on the air almost everyday..a package with spots in and outside the games will give almost daily exposure for the whole season..that's a heck of a deal.

Hi, I always love bringing a creative baseball "diamond" promotion to a local Jeweler.  Guys and gals enjoy listening to baseball on Radio so you win no matter what.  Focus a guys ad on engagement rings, anniversary, birthdays.  Gals-for registry's, wedding bands and attendant gifts, giftware and anything "bling" factor.  If you have a local minor league park near you, create an engagement promotion that you can contest on air for a lucky guy to propose on the diamond, with a diamond....send PR to local newspaper or tv for coverage, and get the park involved with announcements.  Nichole Romano-Lebanon, NH

Restaurant. We had a few that had specials for after the game only.

    Dave,

We are an affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, but we are not the flagship station so potential clients question our listenership and that's what I have to battle with. Thanks for the category suggestions. One you might want to consider if you don't already have them is Pest Control, bees/wasps bugs this is their time of year and I know most people would rather a professional handle that then themselves.
