Does anyone have any info on using smartphones on remotes...We are trying to use an android based smartphone but are having trouble with dropped audio.

Most of us here use iPhones. One of the apps we use is call iPro recorder. It's been great for us, not sure about Android availability. Some phones do not have great mics. I'd look to see if you can add an external mic to your phone to give a better quality.

Do you use an external mike on your Iphones?

We've actually been playing with a program called Mumble.  It'd designed for online gaming, but it's a low latency program that routes you through a server.  There are android apps, iPhone apps, and standard PC or Mac programs.  You'll have to pay for a subscription for a server, but it's something like $4 a month without a contract.

Excellent audio quality, and you can plug in any mic you want to use into the phone or computer.  It's very stable and can run multiple voices with no problems.

We are looking at getting the adapter to do that, it's an iPhone to XLR adapter. It's about $35. The mic is pretty good in the iPhone 4 and 4s but the older models are not as good. There is another recording app that someone got here it's called recorder plus. Seems to work well so far.
