Hello, I work in telemarketing/appointment setting for a small home based business. Recently my boss has decided to create a radio personality to help promote his business--great idea right? Now he wants me to sell interview time, sponsor time, and commercial time OVER the phone. I asked him to guide me, but he can't since he has never been on the air or in radio sales before. I have done all sorts of sales, including outside sales, but never radio before. I have no idea where to start especially since he has not even given me a target market, or any action plan whatsoever! He expects me to build the ship on which he will sail without a blueprint at all. I cannot go on sales calls, but as long as as I can develop a script, I am sure I can get an over the phone sale--I just don't know where or how to start! Hope yall can help me!!! Thanks!
I’d do it as though I was interviewing your boss. First I’d advertise your boss’s personality show for about a month. In the first show I’d do introductions; name, what he does at the radio station, how he made it to the position he’s in, what he wants to accomplish in radio, what made him decide on radio. After that, I’d go more into his personal likes and hobbies; let the listeners learn who he is and his personality. I’d lead it into some talk about the radio station itself and those that your boss works with. He’s the boss but if his personality is a radio personality then he should be able to sell himself with that personality. I believe that he needs to have his personality on the radio before he can sell the time. Some people are going to be hesitant if he hasn’t been an active member in the community. Another thought is that you could find the local places that he frequents and contact them first. If they know who he is, then they could be the best potential clients. Be sure not to upset other clients; like those places he doesn’t frequent.
