I've been kicking around the idea to bring back a shopping show to my radio station- a unique opportunity, because there is no one in my area currently doing anything like this. Looking for suggestions, on how to get the ball rolling.
I've worked at various stations around the country that have done this shows. Basic premise- trade advertising for merchandise- then we sell the merchandise on the air at an automatic discount. I have a block on Saturday mornings to air a 2-3 hour show to move the inventory, and a very popular, active website.
Looking for suggestions, or horror stories

We've done both the live show and on-line. Here are some things to watch out for:
30% off is great as long as someone else is not doing 50%.
Don't reduce prices just to meet monthly budget.
Have your own secure, shopping cart so all of the traffic will go toward your website (this is big).
Always get cash AND trade. Competitors will sell against you by saying radio will trade but we do not.
Constantly drive traffic to your website with a Deal of the Day.
Use incentives to get new customers.
Mr. Walker,
I agree with you on some of what it is you have stated above, however I would not tell anyone to make sure they get cash and trade from a client. I am going to use your hometown as a very good example if I may. I am in the Saint Louis area, however I will be able to sign trade contracts that can be converted to cash sales from your town. That is four hours away, but Branson is willing to trade with just about every one. When you start this program, it is my advice that you use the trade strictly for outside of your normal client funnel. This program can be a wonderful thing because if handled correctly, it can magnify your client prospective list greatly. I am sure you would agree with me that there would be very few if any clients that would write me a check for cash billing in your town. It is a very strange beast, this barter thing.
