My apologies if this post is offensive to anyone.
Being based in Northern California, our "elephant in the room" is marijuana, which is a big "industry" up here although still illegal under federal law. While we don't take advertising from medical marijuana dispensaries or anyone who promotes the use of a federally illegal drug (based on advice from FCC counsel), we have occasionally run spots for gardening and hydroponics stores.
Recently we decided to take a look at this issue and its impact on our community in a news piece. You can check out our first episode of our radio documentary series at : http://khum.com/THC-episode-macroeconomics.
Although we structured the show almost like a public radio piece, we did manage to attract a couple of sponsors and made some money off it, as well as stimulating some serious discussion locally.
I'd be curious how stations in states which have legalized medical marijuana are dealing with this rapidly changing arena. Any advice would be welcome.
We are also making the program available for free to any station that would like to run it.Just e-mail me at [email protected] if you are interested.
Thanks,
Patrick
